The Speak Africa Public Speaking Contest & Fellowship

Is a monthly virtual Public Speaking Fellowship & Contest, where members come together to Learn, Compete, Practice and Perfect their Public Speaking & Communication skills.The Fellowship is a program designed to nurture African voices that want to make an impact locally and globally.

We are a global network with members in various African countries, operating as a supportive community where members meet to learn & practice Speaking, engage in meaningful discussions, and gain confidence.

SPEAK AFRICA CONTEST

Speak Africa holds it's public speaking contest at the end of every month.Participants will be divided into clubs and scored after each live session. The top participants from each club will represent their club in the final contest at the end of each month.

Speak Africa Curriculum

Lesson Mode: Once a week 2 hours live Speaking sessions and presentations with participants - 5-7pm WATPre-Recorded lessons sent to participants before session starts.Venue of live sessions: Virtual via Zoom/Google MeetSession 1: Introduction to Public Speaking & Confidence Building
Fundamentals of Public Speaking
- The importance of public speaking in professional development.
- Overcoming fear and anxiety.
Task: 10 minutes each, giving a 2-minute introductory speech about yourself, what you do and why you, why you are here, and what you hope to gain from this fellowship.
Assignment: Participants will be given a topic and asked to prepare and present it in the next session.
Session 2: Building Confidence
- Body language and voice control.
- Strategies for speaking with clarity and authority.
Class Task: 10 minutes each presentation of task from previous class.
- Review and feedback on participants' performance.
- Peer review and scoring
Assignment: Prepare a presentation of a personal story with emphasis on vocal variety and posture.
Session 3: Speech Organization & Persuasion Techniques
Organizing Your Speech
- Structure of a powerful speech: introduction, body, and conclusion.
- Use of storytelling and data to strengthen points.
- Class Task: 10 minutes each presentation of task from previous class
- Review and feedback on participants' performance
- Peer review and scoring
Assignment: Present a 5-minute informative speech on a given topic.
Session 4: Persuasion & Influence
- Techniques of persuasive speaking
- Addressing objections and influencing audience perception.
Class Task: 10 minutes each presentation of task from previous class
- Review and feedback on participants' performance
- Peer review and scoring
Assignment: Participants will be given a controversial topic and asked to persuade peers.
Session 5: Advanced Public Speaking & Impromptu Speeches
Advanced Speech Techniques
- Handling complex topics and difficult questions.
- Speaking under pressure.
Class Task: 10 minutes each presentation of task from previous class
- Review and feedback on participants' performance
- Peer review and scoring
Assignment: Participants will be given a theme and asked to deliver a 3-minute speech on a surprise topic based on that theme.
Session 6: Thursday
Impromptu Speaking Skills
- Developing quick thinking and adaptability.
- Techniques for structuring impromptu speeches.
Class Task: 10 minutes each presentation of task from previous class
- Review and feedback on participants' performance
- Peer review and scoring
Assignment: Participants will be given a theme and asked to engage in an impromptu debate on a particular topic based on that theme.
Session 7: Final Presentations & Certifications
Final Presentations
Participants deliver their final presentations.
Class Task: 10 minutes each presentation of task from previous class
- Review and feedback on participants' performance
- Peer review and scoring
Session 8: Awards & Recognition
Prizes for top 3 participants based on their performance and peer review throughout the month.
